On the banks of Lake Karapiro is Mighty River Domain - an iconic Waipa District site and one of New Zealand's premier event venues. Every year it showcases a variety of sporting and cultural events and has been the stage for a number of memorable international sporting occasions.


Located 6km south of Cambridge in the heart of the Waikato region, the 19 hectare site offers a diverse range of superb facilities to suit your next event.




Annual Lake Lowering


The annual lake lowering will take place from 10.00am to 5.00pm to a maximum level of 51masl.


Mighty River Power advises that they will use their best endeavours, but cannot guarantee, to achieve the level requested.


Karapiro Dam Road Closure


The Karapiro Dam Road will be closed for maintenance of the spillway gates on August 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th from 7.30am to 5.00pm daily. There will be no access across the Dam during this time.


Temporary Liquor Bans


On 25 October 2011 Waipa District Council approved, pursuant to s6.2 of the Waipa District Public Places Liquor Control Bylaw 2008 and s169-170 of the Local Government Act 2002, temporary liquor bans on the Mighty River Domain, Lake Karapiro (excluding the Don Rowlands Centre, the Rob Waddell Lodge and Chalets and any leased facilities) on the dates and at the times listed under Further Information of Venue Hire on our website.
