Mighty River Domain, Lake Karāpiro is host to many high profile sporting and recreational events. Our annual event calendar includes the National Waka Ama Championships, National Dragon boat championships, the national Secondary Schools Rowing regatta (Maadi Cup) and the New Zealand GP Hydroplane Championships.
We also hold a number of different community events including Armistice in Cambridge Stragglers Rod & Kustom Club classic car show, the Waikato Vintage tractor Club swap meet, plus many more.
With the capacity to host up to 15,000 people, Mighty River Domain, Lake Karāpiro is perfect for large events, with plenty of indoor administration space available for event managers.
The Domain's infrastructure is 'state of the art' and provides a professional and high level of service for any event.
Event Hosts
Mighty River Domain, Lake Karāpiro is a versatile venue with an impressive multi-purpose indoor and outdoor sports and events arena, including the Sir Don Rowlands Centre (link to relevant page). Just a few minutes' drive from Cambridge, in the heart of the Waikato, the venue is extremely flexible and can be adapted to meet the needs of any size event.The Domain features a range of indoor and outdoor zones suitable for sporting events, conferences and entertaining.The spectator embankment overlooking the Lake is perfect for visitors to view water-based events. Our team will work with you to organise your event so that it runs smoothly.We take care of cleaning, rubbish clearing, accommodation bookings and facility maintenance during your event. During Events
An approved Traffic Management Plan is in place during events to ensure safe and efficient access into and past the Domain, Signs indicate the appropriate entrance for people coming to the event. At each entrance there are 'No Dogs' signs reminding people this is a dog free area at all times.
During events the public parking area is through gate 3. Gates 1 & 2 are open to campers and officials only. The gate 3 parking area accommodates approximately 1500 cars. There are also contingency areas available for more cars. All events have parking officials directing parking.
